What is the advantage of losing the unique American spirit? It seems as though there are a lot of people who see it as an advantage.

What is the unique American spirit? I’ll list a few items, I’m sure you have more you could add: Rugged individuality (that sense that we Americans can utilize our skills and talents to make it on our own). Creativity and innovation (we will continue to invent great things, moreover, we will be the engine that drives progress and everyone will benefit from it). Capitalism (we will use our rugged individuality and our creativity and innovation to build businesses and we will improve our standard of living by engaging in free enterprise and free trade with others). Upward mobility (we will strive to do more and better for ourselves and for our children and their children).

Utilizing those traits, America has become a wealthy nation. What’s more, we’ve been the worldwide engine of wealth production, ripples from our efforts helping to create wealth in other nations as well (compare our Patents with the Patents of other nations).

Following a government centric, social safety net path, other countries are slowly (or quickly) eroding, becoming weaker and weaker and facing collapse not only financially, but of the prospect of their people not knowing what to do to make things better.

We have people in this country, in our leadership (including the top guy) and in our population, who don’t appreciate that unique American spirit, or what it has given both us and the world. As I said in my book, “The Tamarack Conspiracy,” without the engine of the American spirit and the United States, the world will become vastly poorer. And so will we if we abandon that spirit.

But look what’s happening. People talk about “community” instead of rugged individuality, and the odd thing is that the more people in government meddle in communities, the less of a sense of community we have, as opposed to what it was like when “rugged individuals” generated a sense of community out of individual desire to commune with others. We have people demonizing capitalism and telling people that they can’t (or others won’t “let” them) improve their lot in life (have upward mobility), then they are surprised that there is a disparity in income between those who haven’t bought that bullshit and those that have. What’s more, they completely ignore the higher standard of living everyone enjoys as those who are still creative and innovative and still engage in capitalism continue to provide products and services that make life better (and cheaper) for everyone.

What’s in it for those who want to kill the American spirit? Power? Power over what? A diminished and debt ridden America and a suffering world? Why would anyone want that?
